Focus more on environmental protection - President Uhuru Kenyatta told.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was asked to consider reintroducing the 4K clubs in our schools as a way of building a environmental care culture in our society as early as lower primary. This came as Embu Miss Environment Champion Ms Suzie Mwende led the community in a tree planting exercise at the University of Embu compound.

Mwende said the Moi era slogan of "Cut one, plant two" played greatest role in protecting our environment and improving the forest cover. "We can review the Moi slogan and reintroduce the environmental clubs such as 4K clubs in our schools and colleges". Mwende added.

"I have always had a passion in environmental conservation. After clinching the coveted crown, Miss Environment Kenya Embu County in 2017, I got a platform to explore on tree planting.
My first tree planting in 2017 was at Wanjee Nature Park in Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County".

My organization

"Same year I launched my environmental conservation organization called Green Economy Initiatives which started planting more trees in a private farm in Mbeere South, Embu County".

20,000 - Number of trees planted

"I have previously planted more than 20,000 trees through GEI and in collaboration with pupils and other environmental organisations.
My Target areas are schools and private farms. This is because we don't just plant trees and leave them to grow but we plant and nurture them".

The event was joined by the University of Embu students, officers from Mugoya regional police headquarters, community and members of press.

"In institutions we are sure that 99% of tree seedlings will grow. We also want the young generation to grow being environmental conscious". Ms Mwende added when speaking to our correspondent at the University of Embu.

"This year we are guided by the World Environment Day theme #BeatAirPollution and Forest Day theme #TreesandEducation".

Target

"We are targeting to plant at least 50,000 tree seedlings by the end of this year.
There are more tree planting projects already planned for the months of May, June and July and I call on communities to join and support me in making the world best place for mankind".

Kibaki and Njonjo: Two Muthaiga neighbours who don’t see eye to eye

Two Muthaiga neighbours who don't see eye to eye By Kamau Ng'otho Watching Jonathan Moi’s funeral on TV two weeks ago took me back in time to when I attended the burial of his mother Lena Moi in Kabarak in July 2004. On both solemn occasions, two men sat close to each other, but from their hostile body language they could as well have been on different planets. At Jonathan’s funeral, it’s his younger brother Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Deputy President William Ruto who sat only separated by Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, but you could tell there wasn’t much love lost between them. From the cold handshake to avoiding eye contact, only protocol and the solemn circumstances ensured civility. It was the same with the burial of Lena 15 years earlier. On arrival, President Mwai Kibaki and First Lady Lucy Kibaki seemingly ignored former Attorney General Charles Njonjo, though their sitting positions were only separated by their host retired, President Daniel a...
